Record Suspension/Pardon
What’s the difference Record Suspension/Pardon?
What’s the difference Record Suspension/Pardon?
In 2012, the Canadian government replaced the term “Pardon” with “Record Suspension” and along with it created eligibly requirements that are stricter. The terms are both referring to the same process. The term most commonly used now is a Record Suspension.
A Record Suspension gives an individual a second chance to be free from past mistakes. Regardless of your status of residency or citizenship, if you’ve been charged or convicted of a crime in a Canadian court of law you can apply to have your criminal record kept separate and apart from other criminal records. This means, if a criminal background record check is required of you, it will come up clear. Even small offenses can have a big impact and follow you around for the rest of your life.
Why do I need a Record Suspension/Pardon?
Clearing your criminal record eliminates unnecessary discrimination from your past, provides peace of mind, and greater opportunities for:
• Employment and self-employment
• Education
• Volunteer
• Child Custody and Care
• Adoption
• Ability to be Bonded
• Apartment & General Rentals
