US Entry Waiver
US Entry Waiver Renewal
US Entry Waiver Renewal
If you have already completed an initial US Entry Waiver application, you will be required to complete a US Entry Waiver Renewal application as US Entry Waivers are not permanent and have expiry dates.
Why Do I Need To Renew My US Entry Waiver?
US Entry Waivers are issued for a set period of time, typically 1, 3, or 5 years. You will only be admissible to enter the United States for the period of time indicated on your US Entry Waiver. Once that time has passed, your US Entry Waiver will be deemed expired and you will be unable to enter the US without a renewal.
US Entry Waiver renewal applications can and should be started 4-6 months before your current one expires so that there is no interruption of admissibility. If you wait until your current US Entry Waiver expires before starting the renewal process, you will be ineligible to enter the United States until a renewal is granted.
What Happens If I don’t Renew My US Entry Waiver?
If you are inadmissible to the United States and you do attempt to cross the border, you are committing a serious offence, which can result in:
- Deportation
- Vehicle confiscation
- Embarrassment
- Loss of travel expenses
- Missed vacation
- Conviction or Jail
Multiple attempts to enter the United States while inadmissible increases the seriousness of the consequences you will face.
Anyone who is travelling with you can also face stiff penalties for aiding and abetting – and this can lead to them becoming inadmissible too.
What if my first application was not with you?

What I Need To Know About the US Entry Waiver Renewal Process
Typically renewals are required after 1, 3, or 5 years and depend on the seriousness of the offence and the period of time which has elapsed since the conviction.
You can choose to renew before or after your term has expired. We recommend starting 4-6 months before the expiration of your previous US Entry Waiver.
- Your form needs to be approved before you travel…not after you get back.
- Depending on your situation the process can take between 4-6 months
- Typically, renewals are approved faster as long as there are no new convictions
